Survey of Puryx
Job: musician

Survey submitted: Sat 08 Sep 2007 - 12:44:11

Handle, ex-handle(s):
Puryx

Name, birthday, origin:
Christian Rønde, 16-02-80, Ebeltoft - Denmark

Group, ex-group(s):
groups now: TBC, Scarab, Pittsburgh Stallers. Then: Flood, Unique (amiga), Maximum

What was your first group, your role in that group and what did that group produce?:
Flood, uhm.. .ascii artist... different stuff - a few demo effects, otherwise moslt ascii.

What motivates you to spend time on the scene?:
Creativity, friends, "that feeling" - a good reason to paty with people that likes the same stuff as you do yourself

What is your favorite color?:
blue

On what platform(s) did you begin your computing journey, and when was this?:
C64, got it for christmas around 1986 (at the age of 6)

What platform(s) do you use now?:
PC/amiga

What is/are your favorite piece(s) of music(s) - from a demo production or a scener (released outside of a demo)?:
Muffler did a lot of cool tracks that I like

What is/are your favorite picture(s) - from a demo production or a scener(released outside of a demo)?:
-

What music program are you using the most to express yourself? Why?:
Reason 3 (soon version 4) - because it is quite easy to use, and it holds all the instruments and effects that I need. Also I don't have the time anymore to explore new VSTi plugins anymore, thus it's very nice to have a fixed set of instruments and effects I know very good.

Which composer, artist or group of the real life did inspire you most?:
Phew... I don't know - I the 90's early 2000's it was mostly goa-names as Astral Projection, Chi-ad, Miranda and stuff like that. now I went more to trance a dnb - thus I'm inspired a lot by eg. Pendulum and trance acts such as Armin Van Buuren, Airwave etc.

Do you play any instrument? Which?:
Nope.. sorry - I started my music experience in Protracker

Which project that you worked on was the most exciting and interesting for you? And why?:
I don't know really - havn't been involved in any totally major-wild productions so far - but I guess the project I have been most exited about was our demo (Caisson by TBC) that I made the music for in 2003.

What is your favorite demo, intro, megademo, retrogame, slideshow, musicdisk, diskmag, wilddemo?:
demo: Captured Dream/TBL, intro: Planet Potion/Potion (you gotta love the music in that one!), megademo: huh? uhm... if you mean llike "oldschool" megademo it's of course Desert Dream/Kefrens, retrogame: Bubble Bobble, slidehsow: -, musicdisk: extravaganja (more the looks and not the music), diskmag: Eurochart, wilddemo: DVD experience by TBC

Discuss: minimalistic demos, cracktros, fucktros, joke demos, lamers, compo winners at big parties, demotools, diskmags, chiptunes, glenz vectors, programming languages, photoshop, textmode :
huh?

What percentage of modern demos are 3d flybys?:
<30% I would say - at least more and more demos focus on additional effects and not only the 3d flyby's

What percentage of older demos are the same effects recycled?:
only a few groups recycle effects..

What platform(s) needs more demos?:
Amiga

Which parties do you intend to go to, and which parties would you like to go to? Please describe your personal experiences with your most favourite or impressive party you have ever been at.:
The Party, Mekka Symposium, Breakpoint, TMD (in Denmark), Scene Event, Tum, Kindergarden (norway), TRSAC (Denmark), SceneMeeting (denmark) are the parties I went to over the years. I would really like to visit Assembly at least once.

The best parties have always been the Mekka Symposium/Breakpoint which is a MUST for me every year. I think I'll keep going to this paty untill I die
Of course my first real party experience at TP97 was great too, but TP became non-scenish quite fast after '98. Local Danish parties has always been a cool thing and I have had many cool experineces at SceneMeeting organized by IRIS as a rather small danish summer Amiga-only party.
Later I and other danish sceners have organized a row (4 I think?) of TRSAC parties (The Real Scene After Christmas) as a replacement for our missing TP experience after '99
The last years I've been vising Scene Event as well, which was a great danish party with lot of foreign attenders as well - I can best explain SE as a "mini version" of Breakpoint.
I also went to Kindergarden in Norway two times - both times I had great fun, and the norweigians are very friendly (but their beer is too expensive!:) )

How did the scene alter since you are taking an active part in it? Can you explain why?:
In the beginning the scene tought me that a computer was not only a toy or a machine - but it could also be a tool of (my) creativity. I had the C64 for several years, where it was only used for playing games. One day I stumbled over a book that said that you could be able to program the C64 and I made my first very VERY simple patterns on the screen. Later when having purchased the Amiga (and still did almost only gaming) I got some disk (accidently actually) that had a pack of small demos on them. Silents demos, Polka Brothers etc. That was when I thought: "Hey, I want to do this stuff too!", so first I tried to program - but with no "mentor" around to guide me it was too hard - then I tried out graphics for a while - however I quickly found out that I was NOT good a drawing anything at all . Then I came to music (and protracker) - and by doing the first (rediculous) tracks together with my cousine, I realised that this was what I wanted to try. Also in that period (the teenage years) I had discovered music and I listened to a lot of eletronically inspired music already then.
Since Then I have spent a lot of time fooling around with music - evetually some tracks got finished - what I have learned is, that I might not have the largest talent for doing music, however it does take time to do good music, and by spending the time I got better, and I think I have delivered a few - but qualitative pieces of music. Today I use my creativity for programmes games for mobiles (I did learn to program in the end, yes ) and doing music as a hobby, by always trying to reach a higher level of musical quality and experience.
In short the scene has learnt me the following: Just don't sit there and get entertained; do something yourself. And of course - don't give up - the more time you spend, the better you will get!

What are your dreams/goals in life, did scene help you and have you achieved them yet?:
I have reached a lot of my goals - espeically when it comes to my work situation (programming games for mobile phones), and I think I would have been there if it wasn't for the interest increating something myself. The scene brought me that interest.
I have one goal left that is related to the scene; which is to get some "real" music released once - I have no deadlines or what-so-ever - I just want to have som of my music released at some point - and of course I want it to be the best music I ever made (by my own measuring)

Finally, do you have some special greetings? Feel free to add links to your graphics, screenshots of effects, modules or other pieces of your work.:
Almost too many people to greet... I want to greet the IRIS guys for helping me more into the scene when I was "new", and had sceners living neraby - also they gave me the first rides to Mekka Symposium, which I will never forget
Also I want to greet the guys in former Cromatics - especially Booster! We had a lot of damn cool and crazy sessions in his flat in Horsens back in the days
Last but not least I would like to greet the TBC-gang and their hang-arounds, since they're the most funny and cool persons to hang around with - also it always help to arrange demo-party trips when you have your friends to go with.
