Survey of Nutman
Job: musician

Survey submitted: Tue 17 Feb 2009

Handle, ex-handle(s):

Nutman, The Notman, Notman

Name, birthday, origin:
Mads Perschke, 14 01 1973, Denmark

Group, ex-group(s):
IRIS

What was your first group, your role in that group and what did that group produce?:
My first and so far only group is IRIS. I'm a musician in IRIS. Our most famous and infamous productions are Quest, I-Surf, Light, Light II, Heart Core, Kilofix and the Eurochart.

What motivates you to spend time on the scene?:
The feedback, definately. I just love it when people like what I do and understand my work. Pretty tired of persons telling me "It sounds just like a computer game".

What is your favorite color?:
Blue

On what platform(s) did you begin your computing journey, and when was this?:
I had a Laser200 for a while, but bought a Commodore 64 at the age of 14. When I was 18, I got my first Amiga (Amiga 500) and since then I've owned Amiga 2000, Amiga 1200 and Amiga 4000. Now I'm based on PCs, but still love the Amiga for what it was and is.

What platform(s) do you use now?:
See above...

What is/are your favorite piece(s) of music(s) - from a demo production or a scener (released outside of a demo)?:
Hard question - but from non-demo tracks I would probably say Wayfinder's "Detonate (Evoke Mix)" - it is very cool. And then I also like Cyborg Jeff's "Email 2 Elise (Valentine Skulls edit)", aswell as Meridian's "Robot Revolution" and Virgill and Dirk Ansorge's "I'm free". Not sure if all these are non-demo tracks, though... In-demo tracks would be AK Balance & Little Bitchard's "The Jupiter Sound (Reefer Evil remix)". It's just so fucking cool! Oh, and 1in10 and Irschtas' "Deities" soundtrack isn't half-bad either!

Basically, I love just about everything coming from Little Bitchard, Wayfinder, Irvin, JCO, Skaven, Elwood, Puryx and... well, too many good ones out there!

What is/are your favorite picture(s) - from a demo production or a scener(released outside of a demo)?:
I love everything Unreal does - he's just so good. Also, Dr. Doom is very talented - not just because he's in IRIS, heh. I'm sure the scene agrees with me in this one.

What music program are you using the most to express yourself? Why?:
FL Studio. It's cheap and very powerful - oh, and you get free updates for life once you've bought it.

Which composer, artist or group of the real life did inspire you most?:
Hm. Jean Michel Jarre, I guess. For being a pioneer and for not just giving up, when he appears to be blending in with the crowd these days.

Do you play any instrument? Which?:
I played the drums, but got no room for a kit these days. Maybe later in life?

Which project that you worked on was the most exciting and interesting for you? And why?:
Kilofix - no doubt about that one. Because no one knew Dr. Doom and I were working on it. Big surprise for everybody and then it WON BP 2006! Which was even better, heh...

What is your favorite demo, intro, megademo, retrogame, slideshow, musicdisk, diskmag, wilddemo?:
All that ASD do. Period.

Discuss: minimalistic demos, cracktros, fucktros, joke demos, lamers, compo winners at big parties, demotools, diskmags, chiptunes, glenz vectors, programming languages, photoshop, textmode:
I don't want to - really. Anything that people do to keep the scene alive is fine with me.

What percentage of modern demos are 3d flybys?:

I have absolutely no idea - and I don't care, really. As long as the demo keeps me entertained, I'm good.

What percentage of older demos are the same effects recycled?:
Is this a trick question? Unless I answer the exact percentage and damn close, I will be put on a black list somewhere and never voted for again?

What platform(s) needs more demos?:
THEY ALL DO!

Which parties do you intend to go to, and which parties would you like to go to? Please describe your personal experiences with your most favourite or impressive party you have ever been at:
I would like to go to Evoke, Outline, Assembly, Sundown, Buenzli, TUM and Kindergarden. Best party ever was BP 2006. The Party 1997 was also quite good, as was South Sealand Party 95.... but BP 2006 is the king for me.

How did the scene alter since you are taking an active part in it? Can you explain why?:
It just declines - and I think the reason is obvious. As the scene started it was cool to be part of something that was really different. Don't get me wrong, it's still a subculture these days, but it's not really THAT special to be a good programmer, a good designer, musician, whatever - not anymore. I don't think there's much we can do, to keep it interesting - other than what we already do. Just enjoy it while it's here!

What are your dreams/goals in life, did scene help you and have you achieved them yet?:
The scene definately made me more "internationally minded" and tought me some social skills. And yes, I would like to make a living making music, but that is very unlikely - so the scene gives me a place to release my music and thrive from the feedback I get there. Which is part of my dream, I guess.

Finally, do you have some special greetings? Feel free to add links to your graphics, screenshots of effects, modules or other pieces of your work:

Well, I would like to greet Bifrost and Darkhawk. Without them I would never have had the chance to see what the scene is - I thank you for that. Other than that, I thank Dr. Doom for allowing me to taste victory at the most important scene party on my favourite platform - what more can I ask for?
